ASANAGI WRAP
Inspired by the Japanese original seikai-ha patterning just like its
cousin, Aranami Shawl, the patterning in Asanagi is slightly different.
Juxtaposing two different textures with each motif the design is created
using a modular technique without breaking of the yarn while each tier
is being built upon motif after motif. Extremely easy to customize this

per 50g); 1 skein each
Color 1 - A, Color 2 - B, Color 3 - C, Color 4 - D, Color 5 - E
US 3 (3.25 mm), short straight needles, two double pointed
needles, or as preferred
Crochet hook size C or D
Tapestry needle
One garter stitch motif measures 5˝ across at widest point and 3˝
tall, washed, measured relaxed
To swatch cast on 32 sts and work one garter motif, then wash
and block it. This motif will be your first motif of the shawl to
avoid any yarn waste.

Using Color A and the Crochet Chain method, CO 32 sts.
Row 1 (WS): Knit.
Row 2 (RS): K1, ssk, k to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1. 2 sts dec’d.
Rows 3-28: Repeat Rows 1 and 2 thirteen more times. 4 sts rem.
Row 29 (WS): Knit.
Row 30 (RS): K1, ssk, k1. 3 sts rem.
Row 31 (WS): Knit.
Row 32 (RS): SK2P. 1 st rem.
Counting the 1 st on right needle as first st of the next motif, with
RS still facing pick up and knit 15 sts along left slope of the motif,
then turn work and CO 16 sts onto the needle using the Crochet
Chain method. Total of 32 sts on the needle.
Using color B and the Crochet Chain method CO 16 sts, then
continuing with this needle and yarn, with WS facing pick up and
purl 16 sts along left slope of last motif from tier below. 32 sts on
the needle.

RIGHT TO LEFT TIER (REGULAR)
Using color C and the Crochet Chain method CO 16 sts, then
continuing with this needle and yarn, with RS facing pick up and
knit 16 sts along left slope of last motif from tier below. 32 sts on
the needle.
Row 1 (WS): Knit.
Row 2 (RS): K1, ssk, k to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1. 2 sts dec’d.
Rows 3-28: Repeat Rows 1 and 2 thirteen more times. 4 sts rem.
Row 29 (WS): Knit.
Row 30 (RS): K1, ssk, k1. 3 sts rem.
Row 31 (WS): Knit.
Row 32 (RS): SK2P. 1 st rem.

RS still facing pick up and knit 15 sts along left slope of the motif,
then 16 sts along the slope of the motif in the tier below. Total of
